EORI Economic Operator's Registration and Identification

The EORI number is a number that is used to identify those involved in customs declarations and summary entry and exit declarations. EORI means Economic Operators’ Registration and Identification.
On November 1st, 2009, the EORI number replaced the customs numbers previously used in Germany. EORI numbers are assigned according to EU-wide standards. The number consists of up to 17 characters with a two-digit country code in the first two positions. For Germany, the prefix is DE.
EORI numbers are required by economic operators who are regularly involved in transactions relevant to customs law as part of their business activities. This applies, for example, to participation in the ATLAS procedure. In addition, all those directly involved in exports (exporters, declarants and representatives) need such a number. It can be requested free of charge from the customs information and knowledge management.
