TEU in sea freight

The capacity and also the load of a container ship is given in TEU. The currently largest container ship – in terms of loading capacity in TEU – has a capacity of over 23,964 TEU. Due to the high level of standardization using ISO containers and the design of the ships for the TEU, the transport processes are greatly simplified. This also affects the share of transport costs in the total costs of the individual product, which is often less than 10%.
